Arabic Fonts on Ubuntu 8.04

In Fact, Ubuntu 8.04 also known as “HARDY HERON” has enclosed n figured arabic fonts in it’s released 🙂 which supported by Arabeyes likes :

• Al-Arabiyah
• Al-Battar
• Al-Hor
• Al-Manzomah
• Al-Mateen
• Al-Mohannad
• Al-Mothnna
• Al-Yarmook

but these fonts can’t be used immediately cZ needed to be configures previously 😦

Installing Packages :

• Update Source List at /etc/apt/sources.list
  • Add from the mirror such as kebo, kambing etc
  • from repositories CD’s (7.10 or 8.04)

root@caktuh:#apt-get update

• Click System – Preferences – Keyboard

asked to install packages of arabic-fonts

• Click +Add on Layouts till opened new window
• Choose arabic-keyboard

Configures Keyboard

• Right-Click on PANEL
• Choose Add to Panel
• Casting ’bout “Keyboard Indicator“
• Right-Click on it and choose Keyboard_Preferences
• afterwards, click +Add on Layouts
• Choose “Layouts (arabic)” and “Variant (buckwalter or qwerty)” of the Keyboard

Proper n Test

• Open U’r Open Office n try to write using the arabic

click on Keyboard Indicator to switch between Arabic and English

• Enjoy U’r selves 🙂
